Players will have a greater chance of catching Water-types like Shiny Marill during a new Pokémon Sword and Shield Max Raid event. Sword and Shield's Max Raids are a great way to play with friends while exploring Generation Eight's Galar region. While the Pokémon appearing in dens throughout the Wild Area are often random, special events often boost the appearance of certain species, making them easier to find for a short period of time.
Max Raid events in Sword and Shield area are fairly common, including special Gigantamax appearances of the Kanto Starters, as well as jokes like the 2022 April Fool's Magikarp spotlight. Recently, players were even able to catch the dinosaur-inspired Rock/Dragon-type Tyrantrum in a recent event, with a boosted chance of finding the Pokémon as a Shiny variant. While Sword and Shield are at the end of their lifespan, these Max Raid events have helped keep the game relevant, encouraging players to regularly log in and play with friends.

Earlier this weekend, the official Pokémon website announced a new Pokémon Sword and Shield update that added new Max Raid Battles. From now until 4:45 PM PDT on June 10, players who participate in these battles will have a higher chance of encountering Poliwag, Marill, and Spheal in Pokémon Dens — as well as rare Shiny Marill. Defeating these Water-types in battle will grant players refreshing beverage items like Fresh Water, Soda Pop, and Lemonade, which can be used to replenish their Pokémon’s HP.
