Pokemon has announced what Sword & Shield's next competition is going to be, and this one might have the biggest catch of all, pun very much intended. Trainers will only be able to bring two Pokemon to battle with them, and one of those Pokemon has to be a Magikarp. No bringing a Zapdos along with you either as all legendary Pokemon are banned.
The event has been appropriately dubbed the Jump Magikarp competition and, as highlighted by Serebii, registration for the competition is now open. As highlighted above, Jump Magikarp will be a Double Battle competition, and one of the two Pokemon you're allowed to bring to battle has to be a Magikarp. The other can be anything other than a Legendary Pokemon, and its level doesn't matter as all Pokemon will revert to level 50 for the competition.

You can register for the competition now and will need to do so before 8 pm EST on July 21 should you want to take a Magikarp and its buddy into battle in the Jump event. That's because the Double Battle competition will begin on July 22 and run the entire weekend, coming to an end on July 24. Every participant will receive 50 BP, but no word yet on what the best performing Magikarp will earn.
The top reply to Serebii's report is one that questions what the point of this competition is. For starters, Sword & Shield are almost three years old. There are only so many competitions you can run before you start to repeat the same ideas. Plus, as Serebii highlights via a reply, it's just a bit of fun. Take your Magikarp into battle and attempt to protect it at all costs. There will always be a Magikarp on the opposing team, so it'll always be a fair fight.
