The June 1 Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer may have been more jam-packed than many anticipated. While no gimmick was shown, it did confirm Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s release date, a new co-op feature, several Pokemon available in the new region (including new ones like Lechonk), and give fans a glimpse of the new legendary Pokemon.
Outside their design and names, nothing else is known.Pokemon Scarlet’s exclusive legendary is Koraidon, while Miraidon is exclusive to Pokemon Violet. It does seem they tie into some overarching theme of past vs. future, as Koraidon’s plumage appears to hint toward the past, and the jet engines of Miraidon hint at the future. Of course, beyond all of this, the biggest question right now is what type these Legendary Pokemon are.

Up front, both Pokemon seem to be Dragon-types, but many fans generally wish Game Freak stays away from Dragon-type legendaries. And, just because these two legendaries appear to be based on some form of reptile/lizard doesn’t necessarily mean they are dragon types—Charizard is a good example of this. Not to mention, if Game Freak went with the obvious, it would be Fire/Dragon and Electric/Dragon, which would just be a repeat ofPokemon Black and White’s Reshiram and Zekrom.
On the assumption that thelegendaries may not be Dragon-types then, their potential typings become more interesting.
