A brand-new Pokémon plush, a life-sized Spheal, has been released in Japan today. The new soft toy joins others on sale like an enormous, and expensive, Arcanine plush. Many other eye-catching stuffed Pokémon have been released over time, serving as one of the brand's longest-running and cuddliest traditions.
Cuddly plushes are a long-standing and ever-popular form of merchandise for The Pokémon Company. Appealing to fans of all ages, they can serve as both toys and collectible items. In the past, there has been a wide range of Pokémon converted to plush form in a variety of sizes (and, by extension, a variety of prices). Series mascot Pikachu is, of course, very well represented here, with many different plush toys to its name. Many Pokémon plushes are novelties of some sort, with some sporting costumes tied to a particular holiday or event. Others have sheer size on their side, such as a life-size Lucario plush sold last year.

This means that the new plush's height is roughly level with that of the average fan's hips. This will undoubtedly make it excellent to cuddle up to, although it may be hard finding a place to store the Spheal properly. Oversized plushes can become unwieldy in tight spaces, as viral images of one poor Snorlax plush trapped inside a prize machine demonstrated so perfectly last month.
