A first look at the Pokémon GO-inspiredPokemon Trading Card Game expansion showcases gorgeous artwork inspired by the mobile game. Niantic’s augmented reality game has amassed a significant player base since its 2016 launch, appealing to players due to its location-based AR that combines gameplay with real-world exercise. Though the game’s original form was largely praised, Niantic has only continued to expand the gameplay features via Pokémon GO’s massive updates.
Pokémon GO’s Mega update, which has been released in Australia and New Zealand, will make Megas more accessible and will improve Mega Pokémon when it launches globally. The update is set to drop worldwide sometime in the near future, bringing changes to Mega evolution energy cost and letting players put more time into raising their Pokémon, though a wider release date has not yet been revealed. Pokémon GO has most certainly found massive success on its own, but the game can attribute a lot of its popularity to the Pokémon Trading Card game, which is one of the most popular games associated with the franchise. Still, Pokémon GO and Pokémon TCG have rarely collaborated, having only crossed over when Pokémon GO’s Professor Willow got his own card.

The Pokémon TCG Twitter account revealed the first look at cards from the Pokémon Trading Card Game and Pokémon GO expansion, showing off the gorgeous artwork that bridges the two game worlds. Among the cards shown are Pikachu and Snorlax, which have alternative art from previous sets. In their Pokémon GO variations, Pikachu and Snorlax have found their way into the real world — Pikachu is shown walking next to its Trainer and Snorlax is taking a snooze
