Pokémon GO players will soon have the opportunity to catch a slew of new Pokémon thanks to the Season of Alola update. The Alola region was featured in the Pokémon Sun and Moon games and was announced as a Pokémon GO expansion during the February Pokémon Presents event.
As a live-service mobile game, Pokémon GO is constantly getting updated and expanded with new content. Like with most contemporary video games, these updates will often serve to stabilize and optimize the game, ensuring that it runs smoothly on as many devices as possible. Given the nature of Pokémon GO as an AR collecting game, however, a good amount of updates will bring with them new Pokémon to catch and items to obtain. The new Pokémon often come from earlier Pokémon video games like Diamond and Pearl or Gold and Silver. Pokémon will also be added from newer entries in the series, as evidenced earlier this month with the arrival of the Hisuian Electrode from Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Fans of Pokémon Sun and Moon will be pleased to learn that Pokémon from the Alola region will be making their way to Pokémon GO. As outlined on the Pokémon GO blog and reported on by Polygon, the Season of Alola will kick off on March 1 and will usher in the arrival of several iconic Sun and Moon Pokémon, including Rowlet, Litten, Popplio, and Yungoos. In addition to adding these Pokémon, the Season of Alola event will feature a host of new raids, Field Research task encounters, and limited-time Tropical Collection Challenges, which will yield rewards of mass XP and Ultra Balls for participants.
