Update: Twitter appears to be back up and running now and user reports of issues are dropping. It is still unclear what caused the brief outage.
Twitter appears to be down as users are unable to refresh their feeds or load profiles. Earlier this month, both Spotify and Discord were down following widespread internet outages.
Website Downdetector confirms TheGamer staff's suspicions as it shows "user reports indicate problems at Twitter." Reports started pilling in just before 1pm BST today, and at the time of writing (1:30pm) there are over 4,000. Downdector shows the baseline number of reports for Twitter is three, so clearly something is wrong right now.

We aren't aware of any other major websites or services that have been affected at this time, although there have been several widespread internet outages over the past year. Some have been the result of Amazon Web Services failures. Last December, PSN, Xbox Live, Twitch, and more were all down following issues with AWS.
These outages highlight a weakness in the internet's current infrastructure. A small few companies host the vast majority of websites and online platforms, meaning if one of the host companies goes down, it takes down all the sites it hosts with it.
Amazon Web Services was responsible for a at least three outages within a few weeks last December, but it is unknown at this time what has caused Twitter to stop working.
