Niantic's augmented reality mobile game Pokemon GO will soon be celebrating its sixth birthday. Pokemon GO and its community are still going strong, with the number of active users around 71 million worldwide as of 2021. Currently, the game has added around 730 Pokemon out of a possible 898, including a number of Legendary and Mythical Pokemon from across the generations up to Pokemon Sword and Shield.
In summer 2017, Pokemon GO rolled out its Raid Battle system that featured Legendary Pokemon in celebration of the game's first anniversary. Since then, the game has slowly introduced more opportunities to catch Legendary and Mythical Pokemon through Raid Battles, and later on with the introduction of Special Research. However, despite the soft rollout of Generation 8 Pokemon like Zacian and Zamazenta, there are still a good few Legendary and Mythical Pokemon missing from the game as of June 2022.
Pokemon GO Teases July 2022 Plans, Including Mystery Event
From Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, there are three Mythical missing from the game. The game surprisingly did not run a special event to celebrate the launch of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, despite the title monster being one of the creatures not yet available in Pokemon GO. In early June 2022, the Mythical Pokemon Shaymin became available through Special Research for Pokemon GO Fest 2022 in its Land Forme, while its Sky Forme will be available starting July.
