We already know that Pokemon Red can be beaten by thousands of people all throwing inputs at the player character at once. It can also be beaten totally blind. But can it be beaten in complete sensory deprivation?
That’s the question asked by YouTuber MartSnack: can you beat Pokemon FireRed without being able to see or hear anything that’s happening in-game? This essentially boils down to whether or not there’s a series of inputs that can beat the game consistently. And the answer is “yes” in 99 percent of cases.

The problem with Pokemon is that there’s a lot of randomnesses. Trainers roam around, moves don’t always hit, criticals happen, and way more. Any run where the player can’t see or hear the state of the game would have to account for all that randomness 100 percent of the time.
But after a year of work, MartSnack has created a series of 230,000 inputs that when applied in sequence will defeat Pokemon FireRed almost all of the time. Why not 100 percent? Because sometimes Pidgey is a little too fast.
To deal with random Pokemon encounters, MartSnack runs from every single one. However, in the early game, it's possible for Pidgey to spawn with higher speed than MartSnack's Charmander. This will prevent MartSnack from escaping and essentially ruins the entire run--it's an uncontrolled state that MartSnack can't account for.
But, so long as he doesn't meet a too-fast Pidgey, the rest of his 230,000 inputs can get him through the game, and there's only around a one-percent chance of Pidgey ruining his game.
