Pokemon fans are split on whether Scarlet & Violet should return to the series' traditional catching mechanics.
Although many Pokemon fans seem to have instantly forgotten about Legends: Arceus as soon as Scarlet & Violet were announced, one thing that has stuck in players' heads is the catching mechanics. Rather than catching strictly through battle, the ability to throw Poke Balls freely and catch Pokemon through stealth was a big hit.

Despite this success, it looks like Scarlet & Violet will be returning to the original method of catching and ignoring what Arceus introduced. Although the trailer for Scarlet & Violet doesn't make it too clear how catching will work, a description of it on the official website makes it sound much closer to traditional Pokemon.

The mention of "battling against wild Pokemon in order to catch them" makes it seem like that's the only option. This has led Pokemon fans to assume that Scarlet & Violet will follow other games in the series and not Arceus, which has led to a range of reactions on the Pokemon subreddit.
