Palworld will not be going free to play or changing its business model, Pocketpair says in new comments on the game’s future. The company released a statement after an interview with the company’s CEO led to speculation and some concern over a potential shift in business model.
According to the company,
“This interview was conducted several months ago. At that time, we were still considering the best way forward for Palworld to create a long-lasting game that continues to grow. We are still discussing this internally, as it is quite challenging to find the ideal path, but we have already decided that the F2P/GaaS approach is not suitable for us”.
They reiterated that Palworld was never designed for a free to play, live service type model. While it is true that the company has been internally discussing ideas about the future, monetization, and additional business concerns, “we are very aware that this just isn't what our players want”. So they’ve decided to listen to the players.
While they are still working out some details, part of what they are considering is the future release of skins and DLC to support development. Once they make decisions on how they plan to create and release those things, they plan to release more info. “For now, our priority remains making Palworld the best game possible.”
With Pocketpair's recent deal headed up by Sony and Aniplex, there should still be potential to market there too. Yet, it seems that the team is listening to those who helped make their game such a big hit.
