Sony has detailed some of its plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation later this year.
Starting in October and running until January, the company plans to release digital soundtracks on Spotify for the first time.
The soundtracks for God of War, God of War II, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Twisted Metal, Starhawk and Unit 13 will be made available on the streaming service, and can be bought on numerous digital music storefronts.
Sony will also launch a new series of physical products called Shapes of Play, which it says has been “crafted by the team behind the design of PlayStation consoles, giving you opportunities to create fun moments with our iconic shapes”.
These include Shapes of Play: Battle, a board game “where you can challenge a friend to line up four different shapes of the same color on the board to win”.
This will be joined by Shapes of Play: Create (a set of magnetic blocks which can be built into various shapes) and Shapes of Play: Recharge (which appear to be stress balls of some kind).
Sony also plans to release My First Gran Turismo, a free trial game aimed at getting players into Gran Turismo for the first time.
Designed to appeal to players of all skill levels, the trial – which will be released on PS4 and PS5 this holiday, “will include some of the favorite cars, tracks, and race events that evoke the nostalgia and excitement of the very first GT experience”.
Other plans include a free online multiplayer weekend on September 21-22, and a series of PS5 esports tournaments on that weekend on such games as NBA 2K24, NBA 2K25, Madden NFL 24, MLB The Show 24, EA UFC 5, Tekken 8, and Guilty Gear Strive.
