Pinboard is introducing a new feature which allows you to virtually place items from US retailers in your home before deciding on a purchase.
This ultimate try-before-you-buy feature is called Try On for Home Decor and lets you virtually place items from retailers such as Crate & Barrel, West Elm, CB2, Walmart, and Wayfair using the Pinterest Lens camera.
The latest in Pinterest's Try On series—following lipstick and eyeshadow—the new home decor experience is launching live across more than 80,000 shoppable pins. So, instead of wondering if that armchair of your dreams is the right fit for a room, drop a virtual version into the empty space and find out.
Try On for Home Decor is rolling out first in the US to iOS and Android devices, and will be available globally "in the future." While browsing Try On-enabled pins, open the three-dot menu in the top right corner and tap "Try in your space," then place and adjust the item to your liking. When you're ready to purchase, click the pin to be directed to the retailer's checkout page.
In the past year, even as lockdown restrictions eased and people were able to browse in person once more, Pinterest saw an increase in the number of users shopping online. "Millions of people now expect virtual and mobile options to try before they buy, see personalized recommendations, and gather information as part of their decision-making process," said Jeremy King, SVP of engineering at Pinterest.
