The disappearance of Q (John de Lancie) after Star Trek: Picard season 2 could be explained by Star Trek's Temporal Wars. The omnipotent prankster will return in Star Trek: Picard season 2 after being absent from the franchise for two decades. Q was a popular recurring character on Star Trek: The Next Generation where he loved to torment his favorite human, Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). Q also appeared on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine before he transferred his attention to Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) onStar Trek: Voyager. Q also made a surprise appearance on Star Trek: Lower Decks, which primed the irrepressible rogue's comeback in Star Trek: Picard season 2.
The Temporal Wars was mentioned inStar Trek: Discovery season 3 and it was a 30th-century conflict waged across multiple timelines. The Temporal War appears to be the escalation of the Temporal Cold War first introduced in Star Trek: Enterprise. The 22nd-century's Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) of the USS Enterprise NX-01 was drawn into the Temporal Cold War, which was started by a race called the Na'kuhl, which made changes to Earth's history. According toStar Trek: Discovery, the Temporal Wars were fought by temporal agents and resulted in at least one alternate timeline being created. A time soldier named Yor also jumped from the Kelvin Timeline of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movies into the Prime Universe, but crossing both universes and timelines proved to be fatal to anyone who attempts it. When the Temporal Wars were over, the United Federation of Planets banned time travel technology to prevent another conflict from happening.
