Author Rick Riordan confirms that Percy Jackson season 1 will be eight episodes long. Based on Riordan's original best-selling novel series Percy Jackson & the Olympians, the Disney+ show was first announced in 2020 and the series was officially greenlit early this year. Riordan later announced that production on Percy Jackson season 1 will begin in June 2022 in Vancouver. The live-action fantasy series will follow the titular character as he explores his destiny as a demigod in a modern world filled with myths and monsters.
Although Riordan's immensely popular novels have been adapted for the screen before, both the 2010 Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief and the 2013 Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters disappointed some fans with their departure from the source material. Even Riordan himself was vocally upset by the movies' adaptations. Riordan assured fans that, unlike the previous movies, he would be involved in Disney+'s Percy Jackson every step of the way. Since the series was first announced, the author has been giving regular updates on the show.
