Disney's upcoming series Percy Jackson and the Olympians has finally found its Percy. Percy Jackson is the titular hero from the well-known YA novel series by Rick Riordan about a teenage boy who learns he is the son of Poseidon. The books were previously adapted in the 2010 movie Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and its 2013 sequel Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters. The original movie franchise starred Logan Lerman as Percy and featured Brandon T. Jackson as Grover and Alexandria Daddario as Annabeth, Percy's companions. While the franchise was panned critically, Percy Jackson became a cult hit, even spawning a Broadway musical. Now, since acquiring 20th Century Fox and all of its properties, Disney is rebooting Percy Jackson as a series that is set to stream on Disney+.
Disney announced that they planned to reboot Percy Jackson and the Olympians during their 2020 shareholder meeting, but no news had been released about the series since, until early this year when Rick Riordan himself announced that Percy Jackson was finally happening. Riordan, who is also tapped to write the pilot of the series and is heavily involved in the creative direction, promises a show that will be more representative of the books. Now the series has found its Percy Jackson in Walker Scobell, the 13-year-old actor who played a younger version of Ryan Reynolds in The Adam Project. Scobell is a newcomer but is already a young actor to watch, having given an awesome performance as young Adam opposite Ryan Reynolds.
