Peacemakerstar Danielle Brooks opens up about her reaction to learning who her character's mother is. Tony nominee Brooks joins the DCEU with the HBO Max series Peacemaker, which just premiered on the streamer last week. Created by James Gunn, the show is a spin-off from last summer's The Suicide Squad. It centers on John Cena's chrome-domed character from the film, a trained killer so determined to achieve peace, he'll kill anyone. Peacemaker has only released 3 episodes so far, but they have provided plenty of surprises for fans to pore over.
One such surprise pertains to one of its new characters. Brooks plays Leota Adebayo, an inexperienced member of Peacemaker's new team. Even before the show premiered, Adebayo's involvement with the team was a big question mark seeing as she didn't appear to offer much. However, Peacemaker episode 1 revealed she was placed on the team by none other than Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), the head of A.R.G.U.S. and Adebayo's mother. Waller's motives aren't clear just yet, but Peacemaker has made it clear she has her reasons for sticking her daughter so close to Project Butterfly.

Brooks reflected on the twist in a recent interview with Variety. She explained that, even before Peacemaker came to be, she admired Davis for many reasons, including the fact that the Oscar-winning actress was the closest bit of representation Brooks had identified with in a superhero movie. As a result, she was honored to have her Peacemaker character be Davis' daughter. Brooks said:
