One of Starz's flagship shows, Outlander reportedly has a prequel series in the works at the network. The popular show was developed by Ronald D. Moore and is based on a series of ongoing historical romance/fantasy novels by Diana Gabaldon. The novels follow Claire Randall, a Scottish nurse in 1945 who travels back in time to the violently fraught Jacobite uprising. Things only get more complex for Claire and Jamie from there, as more time travel and confusing timelines get brought into the mix.
With an almost two-year delay from its previous season, stalled as many productions were by the COVID-19 pandemic, Outlander has a truncated season 6 arriving March 6. The season will adapt A Breath of Snow and Ashes from Gabaldon's series, and while the season will be shorter than those of the past, the season premiere will last a feature-length 90 minutes. In addition to that, an extended season 7 that consists of 16 episodes has already gone into production to counterbalance the loss of episodes. Season 7 will adapt An Echo in the Bone.
