Following its finale episode last week, show creator David Jenkins says prospects for Our Flag Means Death season 2 look good. The period romantic-comedy series premiered on HBO Max on March 3 this year. Our Flag Means Death is loosely based on the life of Stede Bonnet, an aristocrat who left his life to become «The Gentleman Pirate» during the Golden Age of Piracy. The HBO Max series follows Stede as he begins his life on board the Revenge and finds unexpected love.
Our Flag Means Death stars Rhys Darby (What We Do in the Shadows) as Stede Bonnet, and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) plays opposite Darby as Stede's love interest, the notorious pirate Blackbeard. As Stede and Blackbeard grow closer throughout a series of clumsy escapades, they are surrounded by the Revenge's crew who are portrayed by Kristian Nairn, Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, and Joel Fry. Although the series begins as a goofy pirate adventure, it ends with more serious notes of self-reinvention and a heartbreaking cliffhanger.
