Currency in fictional settings can be one of the most difficult things to pin down. Creators and fans alike want to hear dramatic numbers that feel appropriate for the ridiculous and dramatic setting that the rest of the story creates. However, setting the tone so high with money often leads to huge amounts of inflation that lead the economy to be unsustainable. One Piece chose to make their currency berries, and luckily they give the viewers a few different points of reference for how this currency compares. The quality of swords available for Zoro to purchase, the bounties on the pirates' heads, and the amounts that Nami strives to collect are all great examples.
One Piece follows the story of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew of Straw hat pirates as they go on their quest to conquer the grand line. The first few arcs focus on obtaining a solid crew, and from there they progress directly to the Grand Line. But on their way, they frequently must stop to resupply, and fight new foes.
