Viral sensation Wordle has a lot of copycats and look-a-likes out there on the internet. There is one however that took the Wordle concept so far, it's a unique game in its own right; this one is called Octordle.
Wordle is a popular online, in-browser word game puzzle that went viral in mid-December 2021. It started gaining traction on social media in mainly New Zealand before spreading to Australia and beyond in the next months. As its popularity grew, not only did it make the creator a lot of money when he sold Wordle to the New York Times, but it also began to spawn a bunch of clones looking to get in on the game's popularity. While some copycat games created more niche games, like a Harry Potter — or Pokemon-themed version, some just wanted to make the game more difficult.
Wordle Players Cause 'Five Letter Words' to Pop Up on Google Search Trends
Octordle is most likely the most difficult version of Wordle currently available to puzzle enthusiasts. This version of the game gives players a grand total of 13 guesses to get 8 words correct. The puzzle board is massive, and it adds depths to the original that make it look as easy as pie in comparison. While inspired by Wordle, the website also mentions that this version is based on similar games called Quordle and Dordle which are Wordle variations with four answers and two answers, respectively.
It is played in the same way as Wordle; players guess a five-letter English word. It is unclear whether Octordle uses its own list of approved words or the original list of Wordle answers before the New York Times censored them.
