A new beat ’em up is on its way to Android via Netflix Games. Well, beat ’em up might be the wrong term. That would imply you beat anyone up. That doesn’t happen. In the world of Pillow Champ, there are no violent fights, only fun ones.
Pillow Champ answers a question. ‘What does a fighting game look like in an alternate reality where we’ve achieved world peace?’ Well, technically it’s set in the future. We’ve got until 2024 to sort that, though I won’t hold my breath.
The world has entered a new age of peace, and it’s all down to one thing. Pillow Fighting. Pillow-wielding champions duke it out in bouts where no-one gets hurt. Do the stakes sound a little low? Well, the mysterious organization of Pillow Ninjas is out to cause trouble in this utopian world, and it’s up to you to stop them the only way you know how.
The game features eight different pillow warriors with movesets inspired by different martial arts and cultural dances. They all have a story to tell, with those stories penned by Xalavier Nelson Jr., writer for Hyponospace Outlaw and Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator.
You can take on the fluffy fights in single-player, or challenge other to a bout.
There’s local co-op available to duel your buddies, and an online mode to test your skills against other players across the globe.
Interested? Pillow Champ drops in Spring of 2024. If you want to keep up with the latest news about the game, you can follow along via the official website. That’s also the place to go to get more details.
