Survival-crafting, open-world role-playing game Windbound has been announced as next week’s free Epic Games Store title.
It will be available as a free download on Epic’s marketplace from February 10-17.
Windbound will replace Playtonic’s platformer Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, which is currently free to download.
The Epic Games Store gave away 89 free titles in last year (down from 103 in 2020), with a combined worth of $2,120.
According to Epic, users claimed over 765 million free games in 2021. 76 free games broke their peak concurrent user records on PC, with an average of 13 times their all-time records, it claimed.
The Epic Games Store gave away over 15 games in the second half of December alone, with titles offered free every day from December 16-30.
They included Control, Shenmue 3, Neon Abyss, Remnant: From the Ashes, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Loop Hero, Second Extinction, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, Vampyr, Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Prey and the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy.
Epic Games has filed a trademark for the ‘Epic Games Megaverse’. It covers a wide range of goods and services and is presumably an umbrella term for Epic’s vision for the metaverse.
