World of Warcraft just announced The Dragonflight Codex, a companion lore book for the upcoming eponymous expansion. However, the listing for the new book seemingly held a ground-breaking revelation: that a beloved World of Warcraft character was secretly a dragon all along.
World of Warcraft: The Dragonflight Codex, marketed as “the ultimate WoW fan’s guide to everything dragons,” is scheduled for a July 11, 2023 release. The 192-page book promises over 100 new illustrations, and will be going into detail about the abilities and history of the dragons, dracthyr, and other denizens of the Dragon Isles. The book will be written from the perspective of Khadgar, one of World of Warcraft’s most iconic archmagi.

As a character who first appeared in Warcraft 1, this seemingly new fact was an earth-shattering revelation–or at least for the few minutes until World of Warcraft narrative lead Steve Danuser appeared to dispel the confusion. Danuser confirmed the listing had erroneously identified Khadgar as a member of the Bronze Dragonflight, and that the well-known archmage was not actually a dragon.
Khadgar’s connection to the Bronze Dragonflight has been the subject of rumors before. In Warlords of Draenor, he used an ability called Call of the Timewalkers, a reference to the group of mortals who work with the Bronze Dragonflight in World of Warcraft. Because of this listing error, many wonder if The Dragonflight Codex will build upon this former speculation and confirm or deny Khadgar's connection to the Bronze Dragonflight in other ways.
