The newly-released PC, PS4, and PS5 game Granblue Fantasy: Relink is already a big hit, having passed 1 million copies sold and enjoying an impressive 82 overall rating from critics. Granblue Fantasy: Relink is an action-RPG and the fourth game in the Granblue Fantasy series. The original game, 2014's Granblue Fantasy, was only ever released in Japan, so for many, Granblue Fantasy: Relink may be their introduction to the franchise.
Others may be familiar with the fighting game spin-offs Granblue Fantasy Versus and Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, which were released in 2020 and 2023, respectively. The fighting games were relatively well-received, and the latter has even been nominated for an award by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. However, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is clearly taking the franchise to new heights, based on its sales and review scores.
It's been announced that Granblue Fantasy: Relink has passed 1 million copies sold worldwide. This is especially impressive considering the game has only been out for a couple of weeks at the time of this writing. Not only that, but Granblue Fantasy: Relink has been a hit with critics as well, with an 82 overall rating on review aggregate site OpenCritic. User reviews have similarly been highly complementary, with the game currently enjoying a «Very Positive» overall rating from Steam users.
It seems like the positive reaction to Granblue Fantasy: Relink could very well be what launches the franchise to new heights. Granblue Fantasy has already had anime and manga adaptations, but the new game seems to be growing the audience and could potentially result in even more multimedia opportunities. Of course, others will be hoping that Granblue Fantasy: Relink's success translates to new games, though that remains to be seen.
