Redemption Road Games has announced Kingmakers, an RTS-action hybrid that allows the user to wield modern weaponry, including an Apache attack helicopter, against hordes of medieval soldiers. The Tiny Build Games-published Steam title revealed an impressive trailer showcasing more.
Time travel in games is certainly nothing new, with classics like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time utilizing the concept. However, the more specific idea of a time-traveling human leading medieval armies while also using an automatic grenade launcher hasn't yet been explored in gaming. Thankfully, it seems that fans will be able to partake in such a scenario later this year.
Kingmakers' trailer showcases a variety of scenarios in which the player can sway the outcome of a medieval battle from a third-person perspective. One snippet shows the user ramming through a horde of soldiers in a pickup truck, another shows them using a grenade launcher to rain down explosions on enemies, while another shows them picking opponents off with a sniper from atop a castle. The medieval enemies, who are armed with traditional weapons like swords, bows, and shields, come in different varieties, with some on horseback while others take up formation on foot. Additionally, the game features a strategy aspect, allowing the user to seamlessly switch to a bird's-eye view where they can direct friendly formations of medieval soldiers. Kingmakers does not have an exact release date but is set to launch sometime in 2024.
Kingmakers' Steam page teases the game's storyline, which is based around the user trying to stop a future apocalypse by changing the past. Every battle in Kingmakers will be a real-time simulation involving thousands of troops fighting simultaneously, and the game will also feature co-op with up to three friends.
