A new show called Metropolis by Mr. Robot creator, Sam Esmail, has now gotten a series order. Esmail is best known for creating, writing and directing Mr. Robot, the popular drama thriller, which premiered in 2015. The show was a critically acclaimed hit, taking home several accolades, including two Golden Globes and three Emmy Awards, before stopping at season 4 in 2019, after taking two years off the air. Esmail is also well known for creating his other hit show, Homecoming, which landed on Amazon Prime in 2018.
The Wrap reports that Esmail's latest project, Metropolis, has gotten a series order at Apple TV+. The director will serve as both the writer and director of the series, just like what he did for Mr. Robot and Homecoming. The original Metropolis' premise was based in a futuristic city where there is a big class divide between the rich and the poor, with the city master's son falling in love with a working-class prophet. The two eventually team up and attempt to break the injustice system.
