When you have a video game series that's as long-running as Mortal Kombat, you're bound to have fans with deferring opinions. Those who played the original games might want to keep the series grounded to its roots, but newer audiences might want to see it adapt with the times. It's up to the developers to decide which direction to take the series in.
NetherRealm has experimented with the series a whole lot, and if the last two games are any indication, has brought the game back to its original formula, but with a current-gen twist of course. However, there will always be differing opinions, and not all of them will be popular. That brings us to the Mortal Kombat Subreddit, where fans have been discussing their most controversial opinions.

"We need new perspectives in the story. It gets boring having to see Earthrealm every game and half the roster be Earthrealmers. There’s so much creativity for other realms to make appearances," said iGhettoUnicorns, who is a bit tired of seeing the original cast still hogging the limelight after decades.
"The outworld civil war was the most interesting thing about the MKX story mode," agreed TheGalaxyCastle. "I would love to see other realms make appearances as well, especially Edenia!" Perhaps that's why series fans have been hoping that Mortal Kombat 12 brings back the Konquest mode from Deception.
