We recently learned that The Last of Us Part 2 is on the way for the PS5, and it’ll bring plenty of new content for return players. A new post on the PlayStation Store shows a little more of what we can expect from the remaster.
As previously announced, the remaster will feature early development versions of levels that were cut from the final game. There’ll also be hours of commentary from developers available to help you learn more about the world Naughty Dog created. The new post gives us the names of the new levels: Sewers, Jackson Party, and Boar Hunt.
Dataminers had previously discovered that the Jackson dance was supposed to be a playable section of the game, though it never made the final cut. Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann had previously discussed a boar-hunting segment of the game that was scrapped for the sake of pacing.
It was supposed to feature Dina and Ellie hunting, and it was meant to show Ellie being unable to let go of killing the boar. According to Druckmann, this was “part of her dealing with her PTSD.” During the boar’s dying moments, Ellie hears Joel’s screams.
The remaster will take advantage of the PS5’s power to bring you reduced loading times and an unlocked framerate option for TVs that support VRR. You’ll also get visual enhancements, including native 4K output in Fidelity Mode and 1440p upscaled to 4K in Performance Mode. Additional improvements include “increased texture resolution, increased Level-of-Detail distances, improved shadow quality, animation sampling rate, and more.”
