Moon Knight head writer Jeremy Slater explains the apparent Jake Lockley plot hole in episode 5. The MCU TV show premiered on March 30 and served as the introduction of the titular superhero, played by Oscar Isaac, to the franchise. The finale episode dropped on Disney+ May 4, just in time for the theatrical release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
While the series focused predominantly on Marc Spector and Steven Grant, who share the same body due to the former's dissociative identity disorder, the Moon Knight finale credits scene introduced a third alter named Jake Lockley. In the Egyptian afterlife, Marc only manages to balance his scales by working through his relationship with Steven and, perhaps, by Steven's eventual self-sacrifice, but he goes through no such process with Jake, of whom he is still unaware.

While he was reluctant to voice it, Slater argues, Marc always knew who he was, and Steven sacrificing himself to save Marc was the moment that he finally understood his role in the relationship between them.
