Warning: SPOILERS for Moon Knight season 1!
Marvel Studios cut two cameos from Moon Knight, and there are a few Marvel Cinematic Universe characters who would have made sense to appear. Instead of being overly reliant on MCU connections and characters, Moon Knight continued to surprise viewers by not having massive crossovers. The series kept its focus squarely on the dynamic between Marc Spector and Steven Grant, their mission to stop Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke), and an exploration of Egyptian gods. It was through this smaller lens that Moon Knight was able to really flesh out several new MCU characters, including transforming Layla El-Faouly (May Calamawy) into Scarlet Scarab, making her the second superhero to appear in the series.
The lack of MCU characters is a break from the Marvel formula, and as much as many viewers appreciated this change, it has been confirmed this wasn't always the plan. Moon Knight's director Mohamed Diab revealed that the original plan for the series included two major MCU cameos. He didn't reveal any details about who was going to appear in Moon Knight, but he did say they would have happened in the first and last scenes of the entire show. Marvel cut Moon Knight's two MCU cameos during the writing process, though. This indicates that there were entirely different opening and ending scenes for the series, as Arthur Harrow's introduction and Marc/Steven living in their apartment arguably aren't the best places for MCU crossovers.
