The dramatic end of Moon Knight episode 4 was lifted straight from Jeff Lemire, Greg Smallwood and Jordie Bellaire's run in 2016. Most viewers were taken aback by the ending of Moon Knight episode 4, which turned the story on its head. Stripped of his Moon Knight powers after Khonshu's imprisonment, Marc Spector was apparently killed, shot dead by Arthur Harrow. Then, in a surprising twist, he awoke in what seemed to be a psychiatric hospital.
The faces around Spector were familiar ones, seeming to hint everything viewers had seen so far was simply a product of his own mind — a fantasy world he'd been living in. It didn't take long for things to get even stranger, though, when Spector managed to escape the orderlies and discovered a sarcophagus containing his alter, Steven Grant; there was a third sarcophagus they didn't open, clearly representing the third alter whose existence they are as yet unaware of. As if that wasn't enough, the escape attempt was interrupted by an encounter with a talking hippo-god, the Egyptian goddess Tawaret. Early reviews had teased an unexpected and delightful new direction in episode 4, and they certainly weren't exaggerating.

Many comic book readers, however, will have a very clear idea what's going on. This psychiatric hospital is lifted straight from Jeff Lemire, Greg Smallwood's popular and critically acclaimed Moon Knight run, that launched in 2016, generally considered one of the character's best and most creative stories. It's not an exact match, but it's close enough, raising exciting possibilities for the future.
