People can become incredibly attached to their favorite social media personalities, and Technoblade was a person many found it easy to get attached to. Beginning his channel in October 2013 at the age of 14, Alex, aka Techno or Technoblade, became a mainstay on YouTube for his Minecraft videos and collaborations with other popular YouTubers and Twitch streamers like Dream. By 2022, he had attracted close to 11 million subscribers to his channel and nearly a million followers on Twitch.
On June 30, 2022, the father of the 23-year-old content creator uploaded one last video to Technoblade’s channel to share that his son had passed away after a long struggle with stage four cancer. The beginning of the video contains a message recorded by Technoblade himself a mere eight hours before his death. “Thank you all for supporting my content over the years,” he said. “If I had another hundred lives, I think I would choose to be Technoblade again every single time, as those were the happiest years of my life.”

The Minecraft player also thanked everybody who had purchased hoodies, plushies, and channel memberships to show their support in the past year. He stated that the money would in part be used to help send his siblings to college if they wished to go. After expressing his hope that everyone would go on to live long, prosperous, and happy lives, the content creator stated simply, “Because I love you guys. Technoblade out.”
