Minecraft's ever-expanding list of updates never cease to disappoint, with last year's 1.18 Caves & Cliffs update proving to be one of the most expansive in the game's history, with so many features that some of them may seem like a secret. The biggest headlining feature of this update was in the name, overhauling the caves and the cliffs of the Minecraft world as well as tweaking and improving most of the terrain to fit around those two overhauls. While many of the new features of the update are pretty apparent, some of them are well-hidden or implemented in a way that makes them not noticeable at a glance. Minecraft's Caves & Cliffs Part 2 update changed a lot and reimagined the identity of Minecraft while updating it with features that expand on the game's best mechanics, but some of the most appreciated features are so minor compared to the larger additions that many players never notice them.
Minecraft's Caves & Cliffs update was broken up into two parts, with the first update releasing in June of last year, and the second part dropping last November. These two separate releases focused on different elements of the update, with the first release focusing on things like mobs, items, and blocks, while the second update delivered on the modernized terrain generation and biome placement. While the new and improved caves and mountains may be the most obvious things in Minecraft's latest update, many of the most beneficial inclusions were harder to find and required more exploration and experimentation to discover, including Minecraft's new temperature system in Caves & Cliffs.
