Want your Xbox Series X to stand out? Microsoft is preparing to sell custom covers that can be wrapped over the video game console’s standard black design.
The “Xbox Series X Console Wraps” will first arrive in three flavors, including one themed after the upcoming Xbox title Starfield. Each cover will also cost around $50.
“We know gamers want to be able to customize their consoles and show support for their favorite games, and we are delivering an option that’s more affordable and more sustainable than purchasing a special edition or limited edition console,” Microsoft says.
You can also buy similar covers from third-party vendors. However, Microsoft says its own console wraps feature a “custom, precision fit,” that should fit snugly around an Xbox Series X while preserving all the functions, including access to the cooling vents.
“Made with solid core panels that are layered with high-tech fabric finishes, the wraps are folded around your console and secured with a hook and loop enclosure,” the company adds. “The interior of the wraps are printed with silicone designs that keep the wrap in place.”
The Starfield-themed cover, which tries to reimagine the console as an “on-board avionics module,” will launch on Oct. 18 for $49.99. The company also plans on selling arctic and mineral camouflage-themed console wraps on Nov. 10, but at a slightly lower $44.99. Pre-orders for all three covers start today.
Microsoft didn’t say much else. But we wouldn’t be surprised if the company unleashed a wider selection of console wraps in the future. Rival Sony has also been selling its official custom covers for the PlayStation 5.
