The original Xbox is already more than 20 years old. Microsoft's first console launched just in time for the holiday season in 2001 in North America, and a few months later in the UK and the rest of Europe. That technically means it has been exactly 20 years since Scottish residents were first able to own and play their very own Xbox console, and Microsoft has something pretty special in the pipeline to celebrate that.
Its very own Xbox tartan, and some limited edition Xbox tartan controllers to match. The unique Xbox tartan is made up of five different colors and was designed and created with the help of Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers. Though most commonly associated with kilts, as detailed in the tartan's journey below by some of those who helped create it, tartan can be found on all sorts of things, including an Xbox controller.

It's the actual fabric created by the tartan designers that will be on the limited edition controllers too, not just the pattern on a plastic case. These very special controllers won't be available to buy. If you want to be in with a chance of owning one, you'll need to enter Xbox's competition. Xbox's official tartan has added to what has been a very British week for unique controller designs.
