Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the writers behind last year's enormously successful Spider-Man: No Way Home, have discussed how that film's post-credit scene creates the potential for Venom to appear in the MCU again. The hugely anticipated film was a success with fans and critics alike. It helped further develop the MCU's exploration of the multiverse by featuring appearances from all three major live-action versions of Spider-Man and numerous returning villains from the franchise's history, including Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus, and Jamie Foxx's Electro. The film also featured a brief appearance from Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock/Venom, transported into the MCU in a post-credit scene from Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
In the No Way Home post-credit scene, a drunk and bewildered Eddie Brock listens to a bartender explain some of the significant events and characters from the MCU. After resolving to go to New York to visit Spider-Man, who Venom is inexplicably drawn to, Brock and Venom are transported back to their own universe, presumably by the same spell that Doctor Strange used to resolve the enormous multiversal calamity caused by Peter Parker's wish to become anonymous again. After Brock and Venom have disappeared, it is revealed that a small piece of the Venom symbiote has been left behind in the MCU. It begins to slither across the bar before the credits resume.
