MatPat of The Game Theorists YouTube channel has recently suggested that the team behind Five Nights at Freddy's could have planned a real-life ARG game for fans to participate in, and this risky claim has immediately led to doxxing concerns within the gaming community. While MatPat and the channel cover a host of gaming theories, they've become perhaps most synonymous with the FNAF franchise.
Scott Cawthon, the Five Nights at Freddy's creator, has previously communicated the game's vast lore through hints and teases that often lead to fan theories and raise a certain mindset in FNAF gamers. Quite recently, the Ruin DLC for FNAF: Security Breach from Steel Wool Studios was announced via cryptic artwork that contained enough material for fans to build their latest theories upon. The promotional image pictured multiple hints at how the game’s plot might evolve in the DLC, and this is just one example of such clues, which are also present in other games, books, and merchandise. As such, it's no wonder that FNAF players are so used to looking for hints and mysteries.
