Warning: contains spoilers for X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1!
Marvel's Spider-Man has a habit of saving his girlfriend Mary Jane seemingly every other issue, but now Peter Parker's major love interest is getting saved by the X-Men as well — because she's the group's biggest threat. Mary Jane has no powers and is an ordinary human in a world of monsters, demons, and mad scientists (especially in Spider-Man's case), and thus is frequently kidnapped and put in danger by the many villains of the Marvel Universe. This is accomplished by the use of five powerful mutants, Professor Xavier, and the Cerebro machine; this allows mutants an unfathomable advantage against ordinary humans. Unfortunately, the closely-guarded secret was leaked to the public, and on the eve of the Hellfire Gala, it's all anyone can talk about.
