Both DC Comics and Marvel Comics are in the midst of the exact same event — but one company is doing a far better job at breaking the mold and actually creating an event that matters. Both Superman and Daredevil are inadvertently the cause of an anti-superhero movement in their respective universes. But inSuperman: Son of Kal-El #8, DC reveals the major difference between the Superman-centric event and the Marvel event (one of three current Marvel events) entitled Devil's Reign.
Superman is currently facing off against the evil President Bendix of the island nation of Gamorra. Jay Makamura — Superman's boyfriend — is a former resident of Gamorra, and has witnessed first-hand the devastation caused by Bendix's reign. Note that this Superman is actually Clark Kent's son, Jonathan Kent; Superman's more famous father is away from Earth on Warworld and has left his title to his son, inheritor of all his Kryptonian powers.

In Devil's Reign, the Kingpin as Mayor of New York City introduces new legislation that effectively outlaws superheroes operating within the city. All non-registered heroes (read: those who are allied with the Kingpin) are arrested and fitted with power-dampening collars developed by Mr. Fantastic during theCivil War storyline. The Kingpin seeks to retain his own considerable power and influence by using the Thunderbolts and not rely on the Avengers — but The Rising in Superman comics goes a slightly different route.
