Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, and other Star Wars actors celebrate Harrison Ford on the actor's 80th birthday. Released in 1977, Star Wars, or, as it would come to be titled, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, introduced audiences to Luke Skywalker (Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), and Han Solo (Ford). The film chronicles Luke's journey from a naive moisture farmer on Tatooine to commended Resistance fighter, with the young Jedi helping to destroy the Empire's Death Star alongside Solo and Leia.
First introduced in a now-iconic scene in which he shoots Greedo in a cantina in Mos Eisley, Ford's Solo is very much the franchise's wild card. A renowned smuggler, Solo evolves over the course of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and its two sequels, eventually transforming from a selfish and arrogant swindler to a respected leader in the Resistance and close friend to Luke. Although Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi seemed to be the end of the character's story, Solo returns once more in 2015's Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, meeting his death at the hands of his own son, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).
