Mark Hamill celebrates his late co-star Sir Alec Guinness' birthday with some behind-the-scenes shots from the set of Star Wars. The first film in the franchise, Star Wars: A New Hope, which was originally merely titled Star Wars, came to theaters on May 25, 1977 and changed the face of sci-fi cinema forever. In addition to a plethora of sequels, prequels, spinoffs, television series, toy lines, video games, and much much more, the film introduced the world to the iconic characters of Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).
Sir Alec Guinness also delivered an iconic performance as the Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi who takes Luke on a grand adventure across the galaxy. At the time the most established actor to be working on the film, the gravity Guinness brought to the role caused Kenobi to become so popular he cameoed in the following two films despite the character being killed by Darth Vader in the first. The character went on to be played by Ewan McGregor in the prequel trilogy, beginning with The Phantom Menace in 1999, with McGregor set to reprise the role in the upcoming Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi.

On his official Instagram account, Mark Hamill posted a birthday tribute to the late Sir Alec Guinness, who would have been 108 on April 2, 2022. He honored the actor, who passed away in 2000, with a series of photos including a headshot of the actor from when he was younger and a collection of photos of the two of them behind the scenes on the original Star Wars trilogy.
