The official trailer for Chloe Okuno's Watcher shows somebody is following Maika Monroe. Upon moving to Bucharest, the actress (coming off the thriller Flashback) catches the attention of a silhouetted stranger who is seemingly watching her from the adjacent apartment building à la Hitchock's Rear Window. With citywide reports circulating of a serial killer attacking women, Monroe's character Julia must overcome the encroaching figure. Okuno became attached to the project in early 2021, and the film premiered at Sundance.
IFC Films has finally released the trailer for Watcher, giving fans a glimpse into the paranoia-inducing world (shot on location in Romania) that Julia and her boyfriend Francis (Karl Glusman) must navigate. Several frames display the eerie, shadowed voyeur standing in front of a window as Julia peers ahead, wondering if their gaze has locked onto her, a concept Monroe is all too familiar with after breaking out in the tense supernatural thriller It Follows. Characters debate the motivations of the lurking figure amidst the supposed safety of pallid lighting as it appears to get ever closer.
