As revealed by IGN, Magic: The Gathering is crossing over with Tomb Raider in its next Secret Lair set, bringing with it a mechanically unique Lara Croft.
The set will be available on November 20, next Monday. There are seven cards included - The Lost Valley, Lara Croft herself, Storms of Yamatai, The Grim Whisper, Totec's Spear, Kitezh, Sunken City, and Treasure. All cards except for Lara Croft, Tomb Raider are reprints of existing MTG cards.
Lara Croft is wearing her original outfit, Totec's Spear is from Guardian of Light, Kitezh and Grim Whisper are from Rise of the Tomb Raider, Storms of Yamatai is from 20134, and Lost Valley is an original level.
"The goal is always to create products that respect and celebrate the partner, the fans, and that the cards in the drop feel like they belong in someone's deck," Wizards of the Coast senior product designer Daniel Nguyen said. "All are important, and it's a delicate balance to strike. There are a lot of conversations that happen during product development with a number of different factors considered, and the inclusion of mechanically unique cards is one of them."
Magic: The Gathering has been incredibly busy with crossovers over the past year and shows no sign of slowing down. We're just coming off of the gigantic Doctor Who celebration which utilised the show's extensive 60-year history, but WotC is already looking ahead to Final Fantasy, Evil Dead, Creep Show, The Princess Bride, more Doctor Who, Assassin's Creed, Fallout, Jurassic Park, and Marvel.
