At CES 2024 last week, Mad Catz unveiled a revamped version of its popular MMO mouse, the MMO 7+. The new mouse, dubbed the M.M.O. 7+, aims to bring the highly customizable mouse to a new audience, with revamped ergonomics and performance.
If you're unfamiliar with the MMO 7, that's not surprising. The original launched over a decade ago now, back when Mad Catz was still finding its way post-Rock Band and MLG Pro Gaming contract days. The MMO 7 has been a mouse cherished by MMO vets for its performance, customization and more.
While MMO mice nowadays are typically a standard mouse with a ton of numbered buttons slapped on the side, like Corsair's Scimitar, Steelseries' Aerox 9 Wireless, or Razer's Naga V2 Pro, the M.M.O. 7+ continues to eschew that design philosophy. Instead, it keeps the features that made the original variant such a force for classic MMO players.
With 21 programmable buttons, a shift mode to allow for double input commands, and five programmable profiles, the MMO 7+ boasts 210 different inputs. Whether that plays out functionally will be up for reviewers and users to test, but still, but if it's even only half of that functionally, that's not bad. The MMO 7+ does come with the 5D button on the thumb side, which is great for quickly accessing different skill bars for example. I can see myself instead of stretching my hand to hit Shift, Alt, or Ctrl to access a new skill bar in The Lord of the Rings Online; using that 5D button will make it a fair bit easier. Made even better: these profiles are all saved on the mouse itself using Mad Catz's software, meaning if you use it on another computer, all your presets go with you.
