A new sneak peek at Amazon's The Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power, has debuted. The new footage is exclusive to Amazon Prime members, but it's already been posted on YouTube.
The footage shows a number of characters--including Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and Galadriel (Morfydd Clark)--looking to the sky as they each watch some kind of meteor streak across the horizon. «The skies are strange,» actor Lenny Henry's character, Sadoc Burrows, says in the video, which ends with the meteor--or whatever it is--crashing down. The trailer also seemingly shows Ents, which have been rumored for The Rings of Power but not shown properly until now.
A new trailer for The Rings of Power will premiere on July 14, so check back soon for more on Amazon's big new fantasy show. Additionally, Amazon is bringing The Rings of Power to San Diego Comic Con this month with a panel that includes showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay along with stars from the show. The event takes place in the convention center's biggest venue, Hall H.
Director J.A. Bayona has said The Rings of Power should not be thought of as a TV show because Bayona believes it's breaking new ground in the entertainment space. «The Rings of Power is not television. It's a new form we're creating here,» Bayona said.
The writers already have all five seasons of The Rings of Power mapped out, including the show's final shot.
The Rings of Power Season 1 premieres September 2 on Prime Video. It is not the only Lord of the Rings project currently in the works, as a new animated film, The War of the Rohirrim, releases in 2024. Additionally, the video game The Lord of the Rings: Gollum releases on September 1.
