The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power star Markella Kavenagh explains how the show's Harfoot characters will subvert Hobbit tradition. Amazon Prime Video's fiercely-anticipated series is based onThe Lord of Rings appendices written by J.R.R. Tolkien himself and developed for the streaming service by showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, known for their contributions to Star Trek Beyond. Rings of Power is essentially a Lord of the Rings prequel, as it is set thousands of years prior during the Second Age of Middle-earth.
Rings of Power will feature the return of younger versions of Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo) alongside a host of new characters. While audiences are undoubtedly familiar with the likes of Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs, audiences will be introduced to a new Hobbit-adjacent race known as Harfoots, including Lenny Henry's elder Sadoc Burrows and the curious Elanor «Nori» Brandyfoot (played by Markella Kavenagh). Ever since Rings of Power's inclusion of Harfoots was first announced, fans have wondered exactly how they will differ from the Hobbits of the Shire.
