A producer of the Lollipop Chainsaw remake has addressed fan concerns about the upcoming title. The original Lollipop Chainsaw was released on Xbox 360 and PS3 10 years ago and despite having a loyal fanbase, hasn't been made backward compatible on later console generations, and didn't get remastered like many of its peers. Whilst fans were initially happy to see the title make a return in the form of a remake, news that followed surrounding expired music licensing and the lack of key creative members returning from the original game made fans turn skeptical.
Lollipop Chainsaw saw cheerleader Juliet Starling fighting hordes of the undead in the fictional San Romero while accompanied by the talking disembodied, belt-mounted head of her boyfriend Nick, and served as a throwback to pulpy horror classics such as the fellow cheerleader-led Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Guardian Of The Galaxy's James Gunn co-wrote the game with Masahiro Yuki, and it was directed by No More Heroes' Goichi Suda (aka Suda51). Lollipop Chainsaw's dark sense of humor, memorable visuals, and energetic soundtrack combined to make a title that was well received by critics and players upon its release. Unfortunately, since the announcement of the remake, Gunn revealed that neither he nor Suda51 knew anything about the upcoming title. Alongside this news came the reveal that the original soundtrack's license had expired and would not be featured in the sequel. As the writing, direction, and soundtrack were key components of what made the original Lollipop Chainsaw so popular, fans grew concerned about the state of the remake.
