The Real Housewives of New York star Leah McSweeney opens up about relapsing right before filming RHONY, and how she was able to be honest with viewers about mental health and addiction in the aftermath of the season. Leah entered the franchise in season 12 and quickly earned a reputation for being a breath of fresh air among the otherwise stuffy, established housewives. She is significantly younger than many of the housewives and provided a much-needed shakeup to the elite and snobby Manhattanites of the show. Although fans connected with Leah for her honesty and vulnerability when it came to difficult and stigmatized subjects like sex, mental health, and addiction, some of her castmates chaffed at her bold and open attitude. Heather Thompson and Ramona Singer, in particular, clashed with the reality star.
Aside from bringing a fresh perspective, Leah also delivered many memorable and hilariously entertaining outbursts for viewers. While staying at Ramona's home in the Hamptons, Leah and fellow castmates Tinsley Mortimer and Sonja Morgan stripped naked after a night of drinking and splashed around in the pool. While fans found the evening funny, host Ramona was not as charmed by the behavior, especially after Leah took the tiki torches around the pool and launched them across the yard. Leah faced another conflict with Ramona after the reality star would not allow Leah to bring her sister on a girls trip, citing that it was meant to be for the housewives to bond and was not open to family. In response, Leah memorably lashed out at Ramona and furthered the ongoing tension between them.
