Naughty Dog's beloved post-apocalyptic adventure, which originally launched in 2013 on PlayStation 3, sees the iconic duo of Joel and Ellie struggle to survive after a fungal infection ravages the world. A 2022 remake of The Last of Ushas been heavily rumored for some time, and now the project has seemingly been fully leaked.
The somber and heartwarming story of The Last of Us captured the hearts and minds of gamers upon release. Players primarily take control of Joel, a survivor hardened by the death of his young daughter Sarah at the beginning of the apocalypse. When a young survivor named Ellie is discovered to be immune to the fungal infection, Joel must journey with her across the United States to deliver her to a group called the Fireflies. The Last of Us was highly praised for its emotional story and survivalist gameplay, which led to a 2020 sequel called The Last of Us: Part 2. A PlayStation Direct leak (via ResetEra) seems to confirm an unannounced Last of Us remake for PlayStation 5. Set to release on September 2, the updated version of the game will be titled The Last of Us: Part 1 to match the naming scheme of its sequel. The project is said to be a "total overhaul" of the original experience that will include modernized gameplay, improved controls, expanded accessibility options and enhanced effects.
